I've really done it this time. I'm a NyQuil junky. I've been taking it every night for the last couple of weeks. At first it gave me freakish dreams and I'd find myself startled awake three or four hours after taking it frantically trying to solve dozens of trivial pursuit cards containing complicated algebraic equations or cataloging classes beetle larvae on tiny scraps of paper scattered about my blankets. Once I realized I was only doped up, however, and there were no cards or scraps of paper, I was able to easily fall back to sleep. Soon I stopped waking altogether and my nightly NyQuil consumption became somewhat of a ritual.

  • Wait patiently for 9:30

  • Drink a shot of Nyquil

  • Brush teeth

  • Floss

  • Insert Bitey (or Chomper or whatever I feel like calling that device that prevents me from grinding my teeth down to the nerve at night)

  • Go to bed

  • Wait for the soothing goodness of chemical induced drowsiness knowing that nothing on this earth, even Stompy the Neighbor, will disturb me

  • Enter unconsciousness
  • I was really digging this stuff. Until last night. Until I read on the bottle, "Do not use over 7 days."

    Dammit!

I was well into week two and finishing up my second bottle. I had no choice but to forgo my evening dosage last night. As a result, I was wide awake until the sun came up this morning. I did manage a couple of fitful hours after that, and today was so frantic I didn't miss the sleep too much.

Let's hope last night was the only night of withdrawal. I'll be busy tomorrow preparing for San Francisco and need my precious zzz's.

Speaking of San Fran, I'll be gone until the 22nd. BUT, my employer has tasked with testing an OmniSky modem for the Palm V. I'll be taking it with me and if I can arrange it, I'll be updating via the Pilot during the next week or so.

Please refrain from pointing out typos in the ensuing entries. Thanks so much.

Oh, and wish me luck tonight.
